Frequently Asked Questions

1
What is a pediatric sleep consultant, and how can you help my family?
As a pediatric sleep consultant, I work closely with families to develop personalized sleep plans tailored to each child's and families unique needs and challenges. My goal is to help children learn to fall asleep and stay asleep independently, ensuring better rest for the entire family.
2
What age range do you work with?
As a pediatric sleep consultant, I work with babies as young as new born to children up to 5 years old, creating customized sleep solutions for their unique needs. Additionally, as a parent coach, I support families with children from newborns to 10 years old, helping navigate various parenting challenges and fostering positive habits for the entire family.
3
What methods do you use to improve my child’s sleep?
As a pediatric sleep consultant, I have studied a variety of sleep training methods and am skilled in implementing approaches ranging from cry-it-out techniques to more gentle, attachment-based methods. This allows me to tailor sleep solutions to align with each family's parenting style, values, and their child’s unique needs.
4
Does sleep training mean "Cry it out"?
Sleep training doesn’t necessarily mean leaving your child to cry; there are many effective and compassionate methods I can implement to meet your family’s needs and comfort levels. Together, we’ll find an approach that works best for your child and your parenting style.
5
How long until I see results?
Results with sleep training can vary depending on the child and the chosen method, but many families start to see positive changes as quickly as one day. For more consistent and solid results, it typically takes up to two weeks. I’ll guide you through every step to ensure progress at a pace that works for your family.
6
What is parent coaching, and how is it different from sleep consulting?
Parent coaching provides holistic support for families, helping with challenges like behavior management, emotional regulation, and positive discipline for children from infancy through age 10. Sleep consulting, on the other hand, focuses specifically on resolving sleep challenges by creating personalized plans to help children sleep independently. While sleep consulting targets sleep issues, parent coaching addresses a broader range of parenting needs to support overall family well-being.
7
How do you tailor your services to my parenting style and family dynamic?
I take the time to understand your unique parenting style, family values, and daily routines through in-depth consultations. This allows me to create a customized plan that aligns with your preferences—whether you lean towards gentle, attachment-based methods or more structured approaches. My goal is to provide solutions that feel comfortable, practical, and effective for your entire family.
8
Do you offer virtual consultations or in-person support?
I’m the only in-person pediatric sleep consultant in the Ottawa area, and I also travel to serve a wider client base. While I primarily offer virtual consultations—allowing me to support families anywhere with ongoing guidance via email and text—I also reserve a limited number of spots for in-home services. This gives families the option of hands-on, face-to-face support with the same personalized care.
9
What happens during a consultation?
During the initial consultation, we’ll discuss what you feel the key issues are, address any concerns, questions, or comments, and go over a brief outline of what the plan may look like. This session is all about understanding your family’s unique needs. In the second meeting, we’ll review and finalize the personalized plan, ensuring you feel confident and prepared to implement it.
